King Kras and King Keenan!

31 August 2017

Go Back The MX1 and MX2 titles may have been sewn-up last time out at Preston Docks but heading into the final round of the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship supported by Pro Clean at Foxhill on Sunday the British Two-stroke and MXY2 crowns were still up for grabs.

The inaugural 2S title was taken by Mike Kras on his GL12 Racing KTM after a measured performance by the Dutchman whose 3-5 card earned him the crown by five points from Neville Bradshaw.

As a sand-surfing native of Holland its hardly a surprise that he isnt a massive fan of Foxhills brutal hardpack.

This morning I really liked the track when it was graded but in the first race I already knew it was going to be a hard day, he said. I gave everything to pass Neville but for the second it was a case of cruise control.

I wasnt on my game and I didnt like the ruts with the stones in them so I just took it easy I knew seventh was enough and I finished fifth so I got the job done but I didnt ride like I know I can.

Im happy its over because I like tracks like Hawkstone and Blaxhall but this is not my kind of track.

After double wins at the opening two rounds at Canada Heights and Hawkstone Park it looked as though Mike was going to run away with the championship but a bad third round allowed Nev to close the gap.

Its been a very close championship. At Blaxhall I had a terrible weekend and it cost me a lot of points but thats racing and I knew I just had to keep it on two wheels today especially at the start I had to be careful not to crash.

A full-time welder, Mike had to race home to start work at 6am the following day but the good news for his fans is he plans to be back for more in 2018.

The MXY2 championship went down to the wire at Foxhill with 17-year-old Keenan Hird clinching the title by 13 points from the days overall winner Tom Grimshaw in the final moto of the five-round series.

It feels great, he said. Ive been working hard for this for two years after injury. All the hard work that Im putting in on the track and in the gym is paying off and Id like to thank all my sponsors.

Next year Keenan moves up to MX2 and will be staying with Craigs Motorcycles and Team Green.
