Howard steps up!

15 March 2018

Go Back Last year’s British Youth Nationals Open champion, Howard Wainwright moves into the big league for 2018 with a pro ride as part of SR75 World Team Suzuki’s exciting new development programme.

Along with a slew of other talented teens contesting the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship supported by Pro Clean in the MX2 class, the 18-year-old Midlander faces the biggest challenge of his career so far.

“I’m nervous going into my first year in the pro ranks,” he said, “but I’m just going to use it as a learning curve and try to progress week-in, week-out to be the best I can. I’ve set myself some personal goals to maintain good positions and then hopefully bag a couple of top 10s towards the back end of the season.”

With a major national title under his belt, Howard already knows how to win championships but he’s keeping his feet firmly on the ground.

“Winning the BYN was a big confidence boost as I have always struggled to believe in myself. However, it also adds some pressure to try and be the best up-and-coming youth in the pro ranks this year.”

Howard’s 2018 deal gives him all the tools he needs as part of a team that has been dominant indoors in the UK in recent years and he’s trained hard throughout the off-season.

“The deal was an amazing offer that we could not turn down and I’m very happy to be part of the team. It’s been a tough winter trying to set up the new bike and getting everything dialled in but we’re finally ready to go – my training has been consistent and I know I’m 100 per cent and can’t wait for the season to get under way.”
