Tommy confident of taking title!

02 September 2019

Go Back Former champion Tommy Searle (BOS Kawasaki) heads into the final round of the 2019 Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship supported by Pro Clean with a 35-point lead in MX1 and, despite a recent run of injuries, hes confident that he can get the job done at Landrake on September 22.

My ribs are fine now I have no problems whatsoever and my hand is getting there, he said. Im struggling to hold onto the handlebar how I should be but its feeling the best its felt since I did it and getting better all the time.

Tommy broke his ribs in Holland in early July testing for Monster Energy Kawasaki after being given a fill-in ride for the factory team and then struggled through a painful MXGP of Czech Republic before breaking his hand when, unable to hold on, he crashed near the end of race two at Loket.

The injury forced him to pull out of the MXGP of Belgium at Lommel and the following weekend he had a tough time at the penultimate round of the British championship at Foxhill but rode through the pain barrier with a 5-3 card to set himself up for a title-clinching performance at Landrake.

When I went to Lommel with my ribs and my hand it was just impossible for me to get around the track. I was trying but I was so off-balance and couldnt put any pressure through my hand.

I struggled at Foxhill. Its helped me that Im on a good bike and can get out of the start but Ive not been able to go fast or push. Its been hindering me a lot more than people realise I think. Just to get through the weekends has been tough.

However, with just under three weeks to go, Tommy is super-confident that he can sign-off on top in Cornwall.

Ive ridden at Landrake before and it suits me down to the ground but Im not worried whether its hard-pack or sand its a pretty easy job for me to do to be honest, to go there and get one sixth place and I havent finished worse than that all year.

Id like to win the last round. I dont want to be riding around like Ive had to be with my hand and ribs the previous couple of rounds Id like to go to Landrake and win both races.
