Maxxis men at the MXoN!

03 October 2019

Go Back Riders from the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship supported by Pro Clean put on an impressive showing at the 73rd edition of the Motocross of Nations at Assen in Holland at the end of last month, demonstrating the sky-high quality of competitors and teams the series attracts.

Joint top performer on the day was Shaun Simpson (RFX KTM powered by PAR Homes) who came home a fantastic third overall in the Open class with a 3-10 card as he helped Team GB – which included former Maxxis MX2 champ Adam Sterry (F&H Kawasaki) along with Nathan Watson (Red Bull KTM), another ex-championship front-runner – to a podium placing.

“A podium [at the MXoN] has been a long time coming around for me,” said Shaun. “I think Tommy [Searle] could say the same until he got the podium at Matterley. This was my seventh go at it and I finally got a podium so I’m well jealous that Nathan and Adam stepped in and got the job done at their first attempts.”

Just one position behind him in the Open class standings was Estonia’s Harri Kullas (Cab Screens Deos Group Racing Honda) who nailed a heroic holeshot in his first moto and ended the day running 4-12. Stuart Edmonds (Apico Racing Husqvarna) was also in action in the Open class and he helped Team Ireland make it through to the A Final.

Jason Meara (Phoenix Tools Apico Kawasaki) represented Team Ireland in the MXGP class and the MX2 class had its fair share of Maxxis runners with Alvin Ostlund (REVO Husqvarna UK) nailing third overall. His Australian team-mate – and new British MX2 champion – Dylan Walsh also raced alongside Team Ireland’s Martin Barr (Crescent Yamaha).
