BARR & EDMONDS BATTLE AT HAWKSTONE AS SWORDY SITS IT OUT

It was a day of mixed emotions for the Tyco Suzuki squad at yesterday’s British Championship round six at Hawkstone Park. Stephen Sword withdrew after practice to save himself for the next round of the Red Bull Pro Nationals, which he currently leads, due to a reoccurring back injury. His MX1 team-mate Martin Barr had to pick himself up from a huge crash in qualifying, injuring his knee and shoulder, to bravely finish the day fifth overall with 4–4–4 in the three motos – moving him up to fifth in the MX1 standings. In the MX2 class Stuart Edmonds continued to impress and improve with sixth overall ending a respectable day for the RM-Z250 mounted Dubliner.
Stephen Sword:
“Going into this round my preparation was not what I’d hoped for, as I left Duns with a stiff and sore back. I tried my best to get back in the best shape for Sunday but it failed to be any good. After practice I made the decision not to race and make my back any worse. This will give me the best chance to be fully fit for Canada Heights. It’s disappointing but the correct decision I believe.”
Martin Barr:
“The day didn’t start off too well with a big crash where I hurt my shoulder and knee and just missed Superpole by one place. I dug deep in the races and despite nursing a shoulder injury we were able to bring the RM-Z450 Tyco Suzuki home fourth overall – moving me to fifth place in the championship. All in all, considering, it wasn’t a bad day, but frustrating all the same as I know fully fit I could have pushed that little bit harder.”
Stuart Edmonds:
“Sixth overall was a nice solid result. My speed and results are improving race by race. The track really did sort the men from the boys and the new changes to it were good, but it wasn’t the usual sandy Hawkstone. My RM-Z250 worked like a dream all day and I’m now looking forward to Canada Heights and the next Red Bull event.”
Adam Lyons – Team Manager:
“It was certainly a weekend of adversity with so many little problems to iron out but in the end we came out fighting, like you would expect from a TAS Racing team. Stephen made the difficult but brave decision to sit it out, thinking ahead to Canada Heights and defending his lead in the Red Bull series. Martin showed what he has in the tank to bounce back from a big crash in qualifying to be in the hunt in all three motos, and Stu is continually improving. As I keep saying, if he can add a bit of consistency to that speed and determination he can be challenging for overall podiums in the remaining races this season.”
